Some cruise control computers (or amplifiers) have a coding plug attached to the back on the unit. This allows one computer part number to be used for several different models as the coder has the correct values for each particular model, engine, transmission, etc. For proper operation, the car must have the correct coder on the computer. The coder can be tested with an ohmmeter to make sure the coder's values do not deviate from the correct resistance values.
